A story time experience for our youngest library users and their caregivers. These 20-30 minutes story times introduce books, songs, rhymes, tickles and bounces developmentally appropriate for children ages birth to when they start walking. Baby Lap Time is a wonderful way to introduce your child to the joys of reading in a positive and fun atmosphere. This story time is designed so the baby will be in their caregiver’s lap and the grownup is actively involved in the program. It is recommended that each child have their own adult with them.
These 20-30 minute story times are full of books, songs, rhymes and fingerplays for children birth to two years old. Our Baby and Toddler Story Time is a great way to introduce your child to language skills in a positive and fun environment. With slightly more activity and movement than our lap times, children and their caregivers are encouraged to engage with the books and songs and to actively participate in the program.

Make sure to wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat, or a few mats will be available for use. First-time attendees will be asked to sign a participation waiver. This is a no-cost class for everyone!

As Banned Books Week approaches, let us take some time out of our busy day to honor those authors who not only crossed the line, but erased it. But let's not limit that acknowledgement to authors in the United States. Let's cross our borders and look at writers around the world who shook things up in their homeland. Enjoy!

When many of us look back on childhood summers, the memories we treasure most were new friendships formed and the magical feeling that suddenly anything is possible. Summer means a break from the everyday monotony of classroom schedules and familiar bus routes, journeying to new and unfamiliar places, and creating adventures that stay with us a lifetime. The following titles represent some of my favorite stories about summer adventures and the friendships we forge along the way.
The Shepherd Park (Juanita E. Thornton) Library will undergo a makeover project in the fall and winter of 2015-2016. The project is expected to take approximately four months. The library will close for at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015. It will re-open at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2016.
