Share the fun of reading with your children ages 3-5 years. Children and their caregivers, will explore stories and activities to encourage children to develop a lifelong love of reading and learning. These 30-40 minute programs are designed to promote language and listening skills, expand children’s imaginations and arouse their curiosity about the world around them. Class groups and daycares welcome at these sessions. Please no children under 2 years of age unless attending with a sibling or class group.

As part of the "NSO Music in Your Neighborhood" series, NSO musicians Heather LeDoux Green (violin) and Paul DeNola (bass) give a performance for children. A Musical Instrument “Petting Zoo” will be set up at the library.
The program is recommended for ages 5-8 years old. Children under 9 years old must be accompanied by a caregiver. Groups larger than 10 should contact the library at 202-715-7707 to reserve space.
We hope you enjoyed your summer and are in need of a new read heading into the fall. If so, we have just the book. The Turner House: A Novel by Angela Flournoy will kick off our Page Turner Thursday's Book Club series for the month of September. The Turner's are a vibrant American family that have endured a lot.
When you think of summer books, does your mind go to the thriller that you can't put down while you're at the beach? Do you think of setting aside some time to finally get to that classic book you've been meaning to read forever? Or maybe you just want to read about two people who definitely won't be getting together at the end (wink wink). I think that the books on this list would fit very nicely with a cold drink and the unbearable humidity that we know and love.

Kids and teens eat free lunch on weekdays from July 5 – August 12. No registration is required.

The Anacostia Book Club will celebrate and examine the life and work of the famed author Ralph Ellison. His book entitled Juneteenth: A Novel was published in 1999. In celebration of Women's History the month, the Anacostia Neighborhood Library will read and reflect upon one of the finest literary figures of American culture, Zora Neale Hurston. In particular, the book club will discuss, How It Feels to Be Colored Me. This title was and remains very important to the literary movement of the time.
This is a short list of the movies that I find myself going back to over and over. Some may have more humor than others, some may be a bit more bleak and serious, but they all have a great vision from the director, amazing acting, and a way of looking at the world that I find unforgettable.

The Anacostia Neighborhood Library is kicking the new year off right with our book of the month entitled, Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. The book club will meet on January 21 at 7:00 p.m. to discuss the novel. Parking is available in our parking lot and off-street parking is available.
