The two-year $35.6 million Peru Threshold Program, signed June 9, 2008, seeks to increase immunization rates of rural children against diseases such as measles, diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus in eight targeted regions and assist Peru’s Ministry of Health in strengthening information and vaccination management systems. The program will also help Peru combat corruption by working with the judicial branch, law enforcement, the ombudsman and controller’s offices and civil society organizations to improve internal controls, as well as analyze and simplify administrative processes to reduce opportunities for corruption.

Immunization Project
Combating corruption by:
- Improving internal controls within the judiciary;
- Improving internal controls within the police force and transparency of police procedures;
- Analyzing and simplifying administrative processes to reduce opportunities for corruption in citizen/• government interactions;
- Increasing the public’s awareness about corruption and the government’s anti-corruption efforts; and
- Increasing the capacity of citizens to use public information to effectively assess and monitor the government’s transparency and accountability.
Increasing immunization rates by:
- Improving immunization coverage for measles and diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus (DPT3) in eight targeted regions;
- Strengthening immunization management and logistics systems; and
- Strengthening the information system within the Ministry of Health
