The Small Business Office develops small businesses and maximizes their opportunities to participate in Corps procurements, ensuring a broad base of capable suppliers to support the Corps' mission and strengthen the nation's economic development. The Small Business Program seeks Women Owned, 8(a), Historically Underutilized Business Zone Empowerment (HubZone) and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned businesses, as well as Historical Black Colleges and Universities, and Minority Institutions that are interested in doing business with the federal government.
News Story: Forum highlights women-owned small businesses
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 17, 2016) – More than 350 business owners and managers visited Music City today to get more in tune with federal, state and local procurement systems during the 5th Annual Small Business Training Forum at the Tennessee State University Avon Williams Campus.
Video Report: Small business owners and managers participated in the 2016 Small Business Forum at Tennessee State University March 17, 2016 where the commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District commander encouraged them to network and learn more about the federal procurement process. The mayor of Music City also addressed the group along with other experts of the federal market place and legislative affairs. Other Corps of Engineers organizations, Tennessee Valley Authority, Veterans Administration and civilian organizations were on hand to interact with business owners and representatives.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Small Business Office is a valuable resource for small businesses that seek defense contracting and subcontracting opportunities. Contact Us at 615-736-7569 for more information on how the Nashville District can assist and provide more information on the federal government's procurement system.
| Beware of companies charging for system for award management registration - Tuesday, February 11, 2014Registering in the System for Award Management is the first step in doing business with the federal government. Registration is completed at the official SAM website, https://www.sam.gov/, and is free of charge.
Some websites are offering to register companies in SAM for a substantial fee. These commercial websites are appearing above the official SAM website in such Google searches as "government contractor registration" and their designs appear to mimic official government websites.
The official SAM website contains an extensive help section for registering your company. If you have any additional questions, please call Roy Rossignol, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Small Business Office Chief, at 615-736-7569. The Department of the Army Small Business Programs can also be contacted for information by clicking here. |

Monitor procurement advertisements daily
Nashville District uses formal solicitation procedures and publishes notices for major program actions. We utilize best value, invitation for bids (sealed bid process), and negotiated procedures.
All Federal Agencies are required to use Federal Business Opportunities to provide public notice for solicitations estimated greater than $25,000. The Nashville District occasionally posts public notices on this website for any soliciations less than $25,000.
The Army Single Face to Industry (ASFI) site provides vendors with a single point of entry to search for, view and respond to Army solicitations. AFSI provides a seamless, paperless web environment tying vendors to Army buyers.
Stay Alert
Always respond to announcements for “Sources Sought” on the FedBizOpps website that match your firm’s capabilities. Contracting Officers use this “Sources Sought” process to confirm market research in determining whether or not to set aside a requirement for small businesses.
Make it a point to attend business networking opportunities, conferences, trade fairs, and other federally supported liaison meetings in your local area. The Corps of Engineers is normally represented at such meetings and events. These meeting venues provide an excellent opportunity to meet on a one-on-one basis with small business and procurement specialists and program managers who can assist small businesses with finding information about upcoming government contracts and requirements.
Seek Opportunities as a Subcontractor
Many of DoD’s requirements are beyond the scope of a single small business. We encourage businesses to investigate potential subcontracting opportunities with DoD Prime Contractors. Check out the U.S. Department of Defense Office of Small Business Programs and U.S. Small Business Administration websites.
GSA Schedules
More and more of our products and services are being purchased from General Service Administration (GSA) schedules.
