Story time fun for the entire family, these 30-40 minutes story times are packed full of books and activities designed to be enjoyed by all ages. Promoting language and literacy skills, these story times are a great way to further your child’s lifelong love of reading and learning. Children and their grownups are encouraged to actively engage and participate with the stories and activities during the program.
Join us from 3 p.m. for a knitting and crocheting circle. All experience levels welcome, and we will offer introductory knitting instruction to beginners. In-house training materials will be provided, but please bring needles and yarn for your own take-home projects.
Enjoy homemade early literacy toys with your babies and toddlers, get inspired to make your own at home with every day objects, and get tips on building a foundation for your child to learn and read through play.

Dance party for babies and toddlers up to age 5. Experience popular music, motion, dance, and try different instruments. This is a ticketed, first-come, first-served program.

I've always been a big art fan, so I love when I come across a children's novel that incorporates artwork, artists, or museums in one way or another. The following titles have so much to offer - in addition to their gripping storylines, these books introduce readers to various artists, specific paintings, and styles and movements throughout art history. There are few supernatural characters that I cannot resist when I peruse new fantasy titles. One is vampires, and the other is dragons! I love stories with dragons and wish dragons were real, so it is incredibly hard to pick favorite stories. Like many residents in the Washington DC metro area, I take the commuter train line almost every day to work from my home in Baltimore. There is something rhythmically relaxing about boarding a train and listening to the sound of the rail cars as you depart from the station. You can read, sleep, meditate or work on your computer all without the stress of driving in rush hour mayhem. It’s a different experience. You see and witness things from a perspective that you would otherwise miss by driving.

After such a hot summer, I know I’m looking forward to that crisp, cool air that starts to blow in late September. How about you?

Graphic novels have gotten increasingly more popular, but I have to admit I initially had a hard time getting into the format. For someone who was never into comic books as a kid, my eyes get easily overwhelmed with the explosion of activity that happens in graphic novels. What comes as second nature for a seasoned graphic novel fan - taking in the story simultaneously through the illustrations, the expository text, the speech bubbles, and the action bubbles or knowing which panel to look at next - requires a lot more concentration for me than reading a traditional book.
It doesn’t take a riddle of the Sphinx to understand why the world has been so fascinated with Egypt - the Pyramids of Giza, Luxor, King Tutankhamen, Cleopatra, the Library of Alexandria, and the the mighty Nile just to name a few things.
