U.S. Representative Tom Graves serves Georgia’s 14th Congressional District, which spans from the northwest borders with Alabama and Tennessee down to the suburbs of Atlanta. Tom entered Congress in June 2010 after winning a special election to represent Georgia's 9th Congressional District. As a result of reapportionment, he was reelected in 2012 in the newly created 14th Congressional District.
In Congress, Tom serves on the House Committee on Appropriations, which decides how the United States government spends taxpayer dollars. This assignment puts Tom in the center of the spending cut debate, as he works to balance the budget, root out government inefficiency and waste, and reform Congress into a more disciplined body that focuses on saving - not spending - taxpayer dollars. Within the full Appropriations Committee, Tom serves on three Appropriations subcommittees: Commerce, Justice and Science; Financial Services; and Interior and Environment.
Tom has become a top conservative voice in Congress and across the country, receiving several awards from major organizations devoted to lowering the tax burden and limiting government. Tom's awards include: Club for Growth's Defender of Economic Freedom, Heritage Action's Sentinel (97% rating), National Taxpayer Union's Taxpayers' Friend, National Federation of Independent Business's Guardian of Small Business, U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Spirit of Enterprise, FreedomWorks' Freedom Fighters Award, and Citizens Against Government Waste's Taxpayer Hero (99% lifetime rating). In 2010, House Republicans honored Tom as Freshman of the Year.
Prior to being elected to Congress, Tom served in the Georgia General Assembly for over seven years. While there, he authored legislation that was nationally recognized and designed to help small businesses put Georgians back to work through a series of tax credits, cuts, and incentives for small businesses. In 2009, the major nonpartisan organization for state legislators, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), named Tom the Entrepreneurial Legislator of the Year.
Tom grew up in White, Georgia, and later attended the University of Georgia where he graduated with a B.B.A in Finance. Tom, his wife Julie and their three children reside on their farm in Ranger, Georgia, and are active members of Belmont Baptist Church in Calhoun.
