Peoples-Evans, Saraeva selected to participate in DOE Project Leadership Institute
Elmie Peoples-Evans (FMS-OPM) and Natalia Saraeva (NE) have been selected to be members of the inaugural cohort of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Project Leadership Institute (PLI). The PLI is designed to cultivate a diverse network of successful DOE project delivery practitioners — those capable of delivering major high-risk projects. The program participants will contribute to building a culture of project management excellence across DOE.
Peoples-Evans is the associate project manager of operations for the Advanced Photon Source Upgrade Project (APS-U Project). She ensures all bases in the APS-U Project operations are covered with expertise ranging from logistics and fiscal management, to information technology and project management.
Saraeva is a nuclear engineer located in Argonne’s Washington D.C. office. She is managing several diverse and complex projects under the frame of DOE’s efforts to deploy an integrated waste management system for the nation’s commercial spent nuclear fuel and high level nuclear waste.
The PLI is a 12-month, cohort-based program that begins this month. There will be five in-person sessions throughout the year, one online course over the summer months and a year-long capstone project. Participants have been selected from across the DOE complex.
The program will focus on critical leadership development principles including execution of complex projects, stakeholder communications, leading effective teams and the role of a project leader. It will emphasize experiential learning components and interaction with leaders from a variety of fields. Participants also will undertake self-assessment activities to reveal strengths and potential weaknesses in the project leadership context.
Plans will be made and announced later in 2017 for Peoples-Evans and Saraeva to share with Argonne colleagues their experience with the PLI and what they’ve learned as they progress through the program.
A call for those interested in applying for the 2018 cohort will be made in summer 2017. All employees at DOE laboratories and sites and all DOE federal employees are eligible. Employees of non-DOE organizations delivering major projects for DOE and who are directly engaged in project management are also eligible.
