Actress Amy Smart and her husband, DIY television personality Carter Oosterhouse, have bought a spot near the Carbon Beach section of Malibu for $2.9 million.

The ranch-style house sits on about three acres of grounds and overlooks Billionaires’ Beach, a famous stretch of coastline known for its ultra-rich residents.

Former professional hockey player and coach Wayne Gretzky has sold a home in the Westlake Village area of Thousand Oaks for $5.85 million in a deal finalized outside the Multiple Listing Service.

On and off the market for the better part of three years, the 8,711-square-foot house had been listed for as much as $10.5 million, property records show.

Renovating a classic home — when the notable architect is deceased — was not a barrier for a buyer of a John Lautner residence. He simply conjured the spirit of Lautner and his otherworldly opinions via a series of seances.

“That’s not as silly as it sounds,” said Barry Sloane of Sotheby’s International, who represented the buyer.
