Yesterday, at Passing the Baton 2017, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) sat down with U.S. Institute of Peace President Nancy Lindborg to have a conversation on the current and future state of U.S. national security and foreign policy. Senator Graham reiterated the importance of countering violent extremism both at home and abroad. "The biggest antidote to terrorists is to educate a young girl," he said. #TBT to the inaugural #PassingTheBaton in 2001, when outgoing National Security Advisor Samuel "Sandy" Berger passes the baton to his successor, Condoleezza Rice. Ambassador Rice said at the event, “I am very grateful to you for giving me the opportunity to speak about ‘Passing the Baton.’ Now that’s an image I particularly like, because passing the baton evokes an image of a relay race run by a team. Sandy Berger and I are teammates in important ways. We may compete against each other when we’re in races at home, but when the United States tries to pull together a foreign policy that is good for American interests, and I hope good for the world, we have both had the pleasure of representing ‘Team USA.’” National Security Advisor Ambassador Susan Rice and National Security Advisor Designate Lieutenant General Michael Flynn will similarly meet to discuss foreign policy that is good for America and the world on January 10 at Passing The Baton 2017.
