Lake Barkley

The Nashville District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers welcomes you to Lake Barkley, the westernmost project in a series of dams along the Cumberland River and its tributaries.

The lake provides a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities for millions of visitors each year.  The lake covers 57,900 acres at summer pool, elevation 359 mean sea level, and is surrounded by 1,004 miles of shoreline.  Natural conditions at Lake Barkley make it possible for the public to participate in activities such as hiking, fishing, hunting, camping, picnicking, and boating.  In addition, there is a Civil War Monument, historic relics, commercial marinas, public parks and wildlife refuges.  The many species of wildlife here, including golden and bald eagles, make bird watching and nature photography exciting pastimes.

Lake Barkley belongs to its visitors.  Treat the area with respect by keeping it clean and attractive.  Enjoy yourself, have a safe visit, and come again.

Lake Barkley Draft Master Plan, Environmental Assessment & unsigned Finding of No Significant Impact - Tuesday, November 08, 2016

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Nashville District, is currently updating the Lake Barkley Master Plan which serves as a guide for coordination of project development and management of all project land and water resources. As a part of the update process, the USACE is soliciting public and agency comments concerning the proposed Lake Barkley Master Plan, associated Environmental Assessment (EA) and unsigned Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI). Written comments and requests can be emailed to LakeBarkley@usace.army.mil or mailed to the Lake Barkley Resource Manager’s Office at P.O. Box 218, Grand Rivers, KY 42045. All comments and requests must be received by the Resource Manager’s Office no later than Friday, December 30, 2016 to be considered.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks public comment on Proposed Rule for Use of USACE Reservoir Projects for Domestic, Municipal and Industrial Water Supply
WASHINGTON (Dec. 16, 2016) - The Department of the Army, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), today released and is seeking comment on a proposed rule to update and clarify its policies governing the use of USACE reservoir projects for domestic, municipal and industrial water supply pursuant to Section 6 of the Flood Control Act of 1944, 33 U.S.C. § 708 (Section 6), and the Water Supply Act of 1958, 43 U.S.C. § 390b (WSA).

Corps technical experts prep freshmen for future STEM careers
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 24, 2016) –Technical experts from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District prepared students for future STEM careers during the “My Future, My Way” Career Exploration Fair at two exhibits sponsored by the Metro Nashville Public schools Academies of Nashville and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce at Music City Convention Center Oct. 27, 2016.

Lt. Gov. visits Kentucky Lock Addition Project
GRAND RIVERS, Ky., Tenn. (Oct. 14, 2016) –The Kentucky lieutenant governor and 12 board members from the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway Development Authority visited the Kentucky Lock Addition Project at Kentucky Lake and toured the Barkley Dam, Power Plant on the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers in Grand Rivers, Ky. Oct. 13., to get a close overview of the construction.

Barkley Dam brought hope to region 50 years ago
GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Aug. 20, 2016) – Barkley Dam, a symbol of progress in western Kentucky, turned 50 today with fanfare, remembrances and special tributes during a commemoration ceremony at the Badgett Playhouse Theater and reception at the community center.
