Initial Information Security Briefing

This initial briefing provides the basic requirements for protecting computer resources and computerized data based on the sensitivity of the data and the standards associated with your responsibilities as a computer user. This course is required of all LANL computer users. It is required before a CRYPTOCard or Tokencard can be issued.

At the conclusion of this course, the LANL information system user will
  • understand why information security is important
  • recognize some threats and vulnerabilities to our systems
  • know their responsibilities as a general computer user
  • understand information security requirements and restrictions
  • apply ways to mitigate information security threats and vulnerabilities
  • find resources available to assist with user questions and issues
  • know the protection requirements for hardware and information
  • describe the LANL computer network
  • recognize a potential incident and know reporting requirements
