Mine Rescue Contests

Mine rescue contest

Mine rescue contests are designed to sharpen skills and test the knowledge of team members who would be called on to respond to a mine emergency. The contest requires team members to solve a hypothetical problem while being timed and observed by judges according to complex rules.

Metal/Nonmetal Mine Rescue Contests

For 2017

On October 25 and October 26, 2016 the Metal and Nonmetal Mine Rescue Contest Rules Committee met at the National Mine Health and Safety Academy in Beckley, West Virginia. The purpose of the meeting was to review the current Contest Rules and make any needed changes. Each substantive change contained in the final draft (highlighted in red text) was approved by a majority vote of the participating Industry Mine Rescue Associations. Several additional minor edits were made for clarity and proper spelling and did not require a vote. The final draft has been submitted to the Mine Academy for publication. When the new rulebooks have been printed, they will be sent to the Metal and Nonmetal Districts for distribution to the respective Mine Rescue Associations for use during the 2017 and 2018 mine rescue contest seasons, including the 2018 National Contest.
