Habitat Focus Areas

Over the last five years, NOAA has selected 10 Habitat Focus Areas. These are places where multiple NOAA offices can effectively focus their resources to prioritize long-term habitat science and conservation efforts.

In each of these focus areas, we have a significant story to tell and can demonstrate how NOAA’s science, service, and stewardship come together to improve habitat conditions for fisheries, coastal communities, and marine life, and to provide other economic, cultural, and environmental benefits our society needs and enjoys.

On each Focus Area page, you will learn a bit about what makes these coastal areas special, what threatens these resources, how NOAA is working to conserve the habitat, and with whom we have partnered.
You will also see the outcomes we anticipate achieving in the next 3-5 years, as well as our long-term goals for the area.
