The Vale District of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) manages 5.1 million acres of public land in eastern Oregon. The district boundary runs along the Snake River between Oregon and Idaho and includes small sections of both Washington and Nevada.

The district is split into three resource areas:

  • Baker
  • Malheur
  • Jordan

The Malheur and Jordan Resource Area staff are located at the District Office in Vale, Oregon and manage about 4.6 million acres across Malheur, Grant and Harney Counties in Oregon and a small portion of Elko County, Nevada.

The Baker Field Office is located in Baker City and includes approximately a 1/2 million acres spanning eight counties in Oregon and Washington.

The Vale District also has plentiful opportunities for quiet reflection, exploration, education, and adventure. Whether you are seeking the solitude of the wilderness in Hells Canyon, fly fishing on the Owyhee River or taking a trip into the past at the National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, the Vale District is home to a diverse and robust set of attractions and opportunities for recreation.
