The IARC Facility

Located in the heart of the industrial area of the Fermi lab campus, IARC will consist of 36, 000 square feet of heavy assembly, technical, and office space in the existing heavy industrial building plus an additional 47,000 square feet of technical, office and educational space in the State funded addition. The resulting 83,000 square foot IARC complex will provide space and infrastructure for scientists and engineers from Fermi lab, DOE's Argonne National Laboratory, local universities and industrial partners to turn new ideas in accelerator technology into viable commercial products.

In addition to the office and classroom space, IARC will have areas for test accelerators, cryogenics infrastructure, temperature controlled work spaces, high capacity electrical power systems and industrial cooling water. Private industry clients will be encouraged to use the facility.

Fermilab is a national laboratory supported by the Office of Science of the U.S. Department of Energy, operated under contract by Fermi Research Alliance, LLC. DOE's Office of Science is the single largest supporter of basic research in the physical sciences in the Unites States, and is working to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time. For more information, please visit the Office of Science website at science.energy.gov.

IARC will be optimized for the development of advanced accelerator technology and will be a model of energy-efficient construction.

The Office, Technical and Education Building (OTE) is being built to better facilitate collaborations between IARC users and Fermilab technical experts. The OTE building holds office space for 140 people, has 4 meeting rooms, a lecture hall for 170 people a roughly 4000 sqft. technical area and an eating area for 80 people.

In addition to the OTE Building, the Collider Detection Facility (CDF) will be upgraded to provide additional office space, meeting areas and technical areas.

The OTE and CDF buildings are next to the Industrial Building Complex. The Industrial Building Complex is comprised of IB1 (Magnet and Cavity Testing), IB2 (Conventional Magnet Manufacturing and Repair), IB3 (Superconducting Magnet and Cable Development), IB4 (Cavity Process Development and QC/QA) and the Industrial Center Building (Cryomodule Assembly).
