LEXINGTON, Ky. – The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management (EM) today announced it is extending its contract for Infrastructure Support Services at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant for a period of 2.5 months. The contract period for the current contractor, Swift & Staley, Inc. (SSI), had been scheduled to expire on September 15, 2015.

Today’s contract extension, valued at approximately $8.4 million, is intended to accommodate DOE’s competitive procurement process for a new infrastructure contract, which was awarded to SSI on June 17, 2015. This action will allow for transition to the new contract to occur without interruptions of ongoing services.

Ongoing services currently performed by SSI that will continue during the 2.5-month contract extension include:

  • Surveillance, maintenance and repair of facilities
  • Janitorial services
  • Grounds maintenance
  • Roadway/parking lot maintenance
  • Pest control
  • Computing, telecommunication, and cyber security
  • Fleet management
  • Real and personal property management
  • Records management and document control
  • Safeguards and security
  • Environment, safety, health, and quality (ESH&Q) program; and
  • Training services

The mission of EM is to complete the safe cleanup of the environmental legacy brought about from five decades of nuclear weapons development and government-sponsored nuclear energy research.
