A new NOAA-sponsored report shows that unprecedented warming air temperature in 2016 triggered massive declines in sea ice and snow cover across the  Arctic, and brought a record-breaking delay to fall sea ice freeze up. Learn more through our image highlights of the 2016 Arctic Report Card.

NOAA and the American Meteorological Society released the State of the Climate in 2015 report on August 2, 2016. Scientists from NOAA's National Climatic Data Center led the report.

CPO’s programs are seeking applications for 7 individual competitions in FY 2017 for an estimated $10 million available and approximately 100 new awards pending budget appropriations. It is anticipated that most awards will be at a funding level between $50,000 and $300,000 per year, with some exceptions for larger awards. Driven by feedback from water resource managers, federal agencies and others, NOAA and partners have developed the Water Resources Dashboard: a one-stop website for relevant water data on drought, flooding, precipitation, climate and other measures.

NOAA's Climate Program Office released its FY15 Annual Report on March 11, 2016. The report gives an overview of CPO's achievements  in FY15 and highlights the great work done by the Office's Divisions and Programs to advance scientific understanding of climate and improve society's ability to plan and respond to a changing climate.

Earlier this month, NOAA Climate.gov and the Climate Program Office Communications and Education (CommEd) team unveiled a new webpage to track El Niño and La Niña events: www.climate.gov/ENSO.

CPO's David Herring has won the NOAA Dr. Daniel L. Albritton Outstanding Science Communicator Award for 2015. He was honored at an award's ceremony on Dec. 9, 2015.

NOAA's Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR), National Weather Service (NWS), and National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) co-led a Workshop on the Development of Climate Information Systems for Heat Health Early Warning: Assessing Knowledge, Needs, and the Path Forward, in Chicago from July 28-30.

On July 17, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the American Meteorological Society released the 2014 State of the Climate report. CPO's Climate.gov team created highlights for this report in consultation with the report's editors and authors.

From July 28-30, Climate Program Office Director Wayne Higgins and CPO Climate and Health Lead Juli Trtanj  are particiating in a workshop on the development of climate services for a National Integrated Heat Health Information System (NIHHIS).
