OGR Hearing 2 (00000002)

America’s New Congress is filled with hundreds of Members and thousands of stories. Each week, GOP.gov will introduce you to a new House Republican with “10 Questions.”

This week’s Featured Member is Rep. Steve Russell, who serves Oklahoma’s 5th district. Elected in 2014, he sits on the House Committee of Education and Workforce, the House Committee on Oversight and Reform and the House Armed Services Committee.

A native Oklahoman, Steve Russell graduated from Del City High School as class president and was voted “most likely to succeed.” Russell has certainly fulfilled his superlative, earning the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with Valor Device, and Oak Leaf Cluster before retiring from his post as Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army.

We asked Rep. Steve Russell 10 questions:

1. Who is your biggest influence?

Jesus Christ has had the biggest impact on my life.

2. Describe your favorite vacation spot.

Germany. All of it.

3. If we were to empty your pockets, what would we find?

My voting card, a handkerchief, and usually no money.

4. What’s one piece of advice that has helped shape the course of your life?

Don’t sweat the little stuff, and everything is the little stuff.

5. What is the best way to satisfy your sweet tooth?

Dark chocolate.

Defending life, liberty, and property.

7. Describe your morning routine.

I wake up, try to work out before I get ready for work, try to read to read some passage of scripture and breakfast is a rare occurrence. Coffee is 100% guaranteed. After getting ready, I coordinate with my wife about the day.

8. What is the most important–but under-reported—policy issue you work on?

I think it is probably the religious liberty issues facing our country today.

9. What is Capitol Hill’s “hidden treasure”?

Café Berlin.

10. How would you spend a day off?

500 rounds at the range, playing the guitar, maybe the banjo, reading (or buying) a good book, and dinner with my wife.
