Washington, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) today issued the following statement to honor and recognize our nation’s law enforcement officers on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day:

“On National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, I want to extend my deepest gratitude and support to the law enforcement officers across the country who serve and protect our communities. Our nation was founded on the rule of law and law enforcement officers continually carry out this core principle of our Republic.

“Every day, law enforcement officers across the United States place their lives on the line in order to protect their fellow Americans. They protect our neighborhoods from criminals, fight crime, ensure justice, and keep the peace. Last year, our nation witnessed a disturbing rise in cold-hearted and merciless attacks against police officers, including those in Dallas, Baton Rouge, and beyond. These horrific attacks on the men and women wearing the badge heightened our country’s awareness of the sacrifices they and their families make daily to keep us safe from danger.

“As chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, I stand shoulder to shoulder with our nation’s law enforcement officers and remain committed to finding solutions to reduce violence and aggression towards them. These brave men and women are heroes and deserve to be recognized and honored for their service to our country.”
