Integrating the productivity and ecological processes of anadromous fish populations with estuarine, transitional, and Gulf of Alaska ecosystems.

The Auke Bay Laboratories’ Salmon Ocean Ecology and Bycatch Analysis (SOEBA) program conducts research to understand ecological processes that drive the productivity of anadromous fish populations in freshwater, estuarine, transitional, and marine ecosystems of the Gulf of Alaska and Bering Sea. These efforts aid state and federal fishery managers in making informed science-based decisions to help sustain fish populations, fisheries, and fishing communities in accordance with the NOAA AFSC Science Plan and NOAA Guidance Memo FY 2011-2015. Our sub-program focuses on: 1) marine ecology research, 2) forecasting salmon and groundfish recruitment, and 3) evaluating the impacts of commercial fisheries on salmon populations.
