Early Career Opportunities

American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) Fellowship
This fellowship provides early career health science scholars with the opportunity to experience and participate in evidence-based health care or public health studies that improve the care and access to care of patients in domestic and global health care systems.

Gilbert S. Omenn Anniversary Fellowship
The purpose of this fellowship is to enable talented, early career scholars in biomedical science and population health to participate actively in the  study process, promoting the linkage of public health and medicine -- both scientifically and through practice and policy.

Greenwall Fellowship in Bioethics
The Greenwall Fellowship in Bioethics enables young investigators to participate actively in our work and to further their careers as future leaders addressing bioethics issues in clinical care, biomedical research, and public policy.

Gulf Research Program Funding Opportunities
The Gulf Research Program offers a variety of fellowship and grant opportunities to support the program’s 30-year mission to enhance oil system safety and the protection of human health and the environment in the Gulf of Mexico and U.S. outer continental shelf regions.

Anniversary Fellowship sponsored by the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation in honor of Dr. John Benson
This fellowship welcomes talented, early career health science scholars with a demonstrated interest in and focus on medical professionalism to participate actively in our work and to further their careers as future leaders in the field.

Anniversary Fellowship in Osteopathic Medicine
This fellowship provides early career faculty and future leaders in osteopathic medicine with the opportunity to participate actively in our work.

Christine Mirzayan Science & Technology Policy Graduate Fellowship Program
A program designed to engage graduate science, engineering, medical, veterinary, business, and law students in the analysis and creation of science and technology policy and to familiarize them with the interactions of science, technology, and government.

National Academies Research Associateship Programs
Postdoctoral and senior research awards are sponsored by 30 federal laboratories at over 100 locations in the United States and overseas. Awards are given for the purpose of conducting research chosen by the doctoral level scientists and engineers to apply their special knowledge and research talents to research areas that are of interest to them and to the host laboratories and centers.

The Ford Foundation Fellowship Program
Fellowship grants for predoctoral, dissertation, and postdoctoral study open to U.S. citizens or nationals in research-based fields.

Center for the Advancement of Scholarship on Engineering Education Postdoctoral Fellowships
For postdoctoral scientists and engineers who wish to receive specialized training in engineering education under the mentorship of a senior fellow or campus-based engineering educator.

Norman F. Gant/American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology Fellowship
This fellowship is designed to provide an exceptional learning and career development opportunity for early career faculty and future leaders in obstetrics and gynecology.

IANAS Fellowship
The IANAS (InterAmerican Network of Academies of Science) Fellowship provides scientists and engineers from Latin America and the Caribbean an opportunity to conduct short-term research and collaborate with researchers in the U.S.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellows Program
This fellowship provides the nation’s most comprehensive fellowship experience at the nexus of health, science, policy, and politics in Washington, D.C. It is an outstanding opportunity for exceptional mid-career health, behavioral, and social science professionals with an interest in health, health care policy, and promoting the health of the nation. Fellows participate in the policy process at the federal level and use that leadership experience to improve health, health care, and health policy.

Fellowship 2Jefferson Science Fellows at the U.S. Department of State
Fellowship opportunities open to tenured academic scientists and engineers from U.S. institutions of higher learning to spend a year at the U.S. Department of State advising policymakers on issues in science and technology.

FDA Tobacco Regulatory Science Fellowship Program
This 12-month, multidisciplinary residential program is designed for mid-career professionals to gain experience and expertise to further define and develop the field of regulatory science as it relates to the regulation of tobacco products and FDA's new authorities under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act.

Distinguished Nurse Scholar-in-Residence Program
Each year, one outstanding senior nurse scholar is selected to come to Washington, D.C., to participate in a one-year program of orientation and work at the IOM to play a more prominent role in health policy development at the national level. The program seeks individuals who have the capacity and skills to bring issues of special interest in nursing to greater public understanding and policy attention.
