One of the world's great scientific destinations, Argonne National Laboratory is a U.S. Department of Energy research center.
Our engineers and scientists conduct basic and applied research in energy storage, alternative energy and efficiency, nuclear energy, national security, and biological and environmental systems. Argonne's scientific user facilities, such as the Advanced Photon Source, the Center for Nanoscale Materials, ATLAS, and the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility, help advance America's scientific leadership and prepare the nation for the future.
Argonne is located on 1,700 acres (6.9 km²) in DuPage County, Illinois, 25 miles (40 km) southwest of Chicago. The lab is completely encircled by Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve.
