Statement Regarding the Dakota Access Pipeline

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Army informed the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Energy Transfer Partners, and Dakota Access, LLC, that it has completed the review that it launched on September 9, 2016. The Army has determined that additional discussion and analysis are warranted in light of the history of the Great Sioux Nation’s dispossessions of lands, the importance of Lake Oahe to the Tribe, our government-to-government relationship, and the statute governing easements through government property. Public comment period extended for Cherry Creek Dam Water Control Plan changes

Water managers for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District have extended the public comment period to December 16 for a Draft Report outlining proposed modifications to the Water Control Plan for Cherry Creek Dam during extreme flood events. The proposed plan allows water managers to release more water from the dam to reduce the risk of overtopping and failure. Public comments on the report will now be accepted through December 16, 2016. Changes to the water control plan could still be implemented as early as January 2017. [Read More]

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $435,450 construction contract to Western Contracting Corporation of Sioux City, Iowa, for Rock Structure Modifications at the Deer Island Top Width Widening Project in Harrison County, Iowa, and Middle Decatur Embankment Repair in Monona County, Iowa. Draft EA for levee repairs near Langdon, MO available for public comment

A draft environmental assessment for repairs to Missouri River levee unit L-550 near Langdon in Atchison County, Missouri is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of repairing damage along a drainage ditch between L-550 and Rock Creek caused by high precipitation events. Repairs are needed to prevent seepage of levee foundation material from L-550 into the drainage ditch. Comments must be postmarked or received no later than October 27, 2016. [Read More]
