There is no doubt that the results of the election have shaken millions of Americans, especially LGBTQ Americans, across the country.
For many LGBTQ young people, especially those who are transgender, immigrants, disabled, or people of color, the election result feels like a rejection of their humanity and their place in our country. To every LGBTQ person across this nation feeling stunned and disheartened, and questioning if they have a place in our country today, we say this: You do. Don’t ever let anybody tell you otherwise. Be bold, be strong, and continue to stand up for the principles that have always made America great. We are with you.

- The Trevor Project: The nation’s only 24/7 crisis intervention and suicide prevention lifeline for LGBTQ people ages 13 to 24. Call 866-4-U-TREVOR (866-488-7386) or use Trevor Chat, the Trevor Project's online messaging service.

Helping our LGBTQ Youth
Every one of us, and especially those of us who are parents, caregivers, educators and other youth-serving professionals, have two urgent tasks. We must reassure our youth of their value, dignity and future, and we must identify and protect young people who are at risk.
What we can do:
- Help young people cope by taking steps outlined in SAMHSA's guide for helping children and youth cope after a traumatic event
- Acknowledge fears and demonstrate support
- Affirm LGBTQ identities
- Address the risk of suicide
