9/2/2010 - PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. -- The 2nd Space Operations Squadron will conduct a Flex Power Integration Assessment of the GPS space and control segments over the next several weeks to confirm functionality delivered in AEP 5.5.0D.
AEP 5.5.0D is a recent software upgrade that will enable the ground system to command and control the new GPS IIF satellite that launched May 28 and is progressing as scheduled through its "on-orbit checkout."
The Air Force does not anticipate any GPS satellite outages as a result of this activity nor any impact to the broadcast navigation message.
"We are excited to take the next step in delivering this capability to the warfighter," said Col. David Buckman, chief, Positioning, Navigation and Timing Division, Air Force Space Command Directorate of Requirements. "GPS has proven itself to be a critical asset to the military as well as the civilian and commercial sectors. We look forward to continue exceeding our current PNT capabilities for all of our global users."
