Judiciary Conferences That Cost More Than $100,000

In fiscal year 2015, the judiciary held 43 conferences that cost more than $100,000. The judiciary’s policies that govern meeting planning and administration provide guidance and oversight of conferences and ensure that funds are used properly and effectively to promote the mission of the federal judiciary.

The judiciary meeting organizers are careful to ensure the effective use of appropriated funds, minimize meeting-related costs, and exercise sound internal controls. These conferences play a critical role in furthering the administration of justice. Congress recognized the value of the circuit judicial conferences by specific authorization in 28 U.S.C. § 333 and Congress created the Federal Judicial Center and authorized its educational mission in 28 U.S.C. § 620.
