The western U.S. will experience active weather yet again this week as significant Pacific moisture brings rain and mountain snow to the region. The International Activities Office (IA) coordinates all international cooperation for the National Weather Service (NWS) and is located within the Office of the Assistant Administrator for Weather Services. Laura K. Furgione, who is the NWS Deputy Director, also serves as the Permanent Representative for the United States with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
IA supports the US Permanent Representative in coordinating US participation in WMO Technical Commissions, Regional Associations, and Executive Council. IA program analysts manage bilateral relations, implement projects, oversee the travel of NWS experts, represent the NWS at international meetings, and coordinate with other federal agencies and non-governmental partners.
