Vicksburg, MS….The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Louisiana Field Office partnered with Warrior Hunts and the National Wild Turkey Federation to host the Fifth Annual Patriot Hunt on December 3, 2016 at Columbia Lock and Dam.

The hunts began Saturday morning with breakfast provided by volunteers. Breakfast was followed by a safety meeting to discuss the stands and shooting areas. Twelve hunters were then escorted to eight separate deer stands. At the conclusion of the morning hunt, four deer were harvested, including an 8-point. The rainy weather condition did not allow hunters to achieve many clean shots as the deer were moving through quickly and at far distances.

During the evening hunt, three more deer were harvested including two bucks and a doe, one of which was a 6-point harvested by the daughter of one of the hunters.

The Louisiana Field Office staff gives a special thanks to John Nolan and Larry Lawson of the Warrior Hunts organization for selecting the hunters and providing support before and during the event; Columbia Lock and Dam staff; Caleb Jones, son of Corps team member Tommy Jones; Bo Aarons and Joe Haller; Vicki Mitchel of “I Dream Cake” of West Monroe; and Mr. Butts BBQ of Columbia for lunch. The list of volunteers is too large to list everybody individually, but thanks to all that volunteered/assisted with coordinating this memorable event this year, everyone had a great time!

The Vicksburg District manages thousands of acres that offer an array of recreational opportunities.
