NIEHS Shared and Core Facilities

NIEHS Shared and Core Facilities provide state-of-the-art equipment and expertise, which support in-house (intramural) research activities at the institute. These shared and core services are available to NIEHS employees only.

Journals and Reference

Scientific Methods
  • Bisphenol A-related Journal Articles and Stories
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical produced in large quantities for use primarily in the production of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. The NIEHS has compiled a collection of information on BPA, including press releases, fact sheets, and research papers.

  • Digitized Atlas of Mouse Liver Lesions
The Digitized Atlas of Mouse Liver Lesions page contains both search by subject and search by pathology.

  • Diseases and the Environment
The Toxicology and Environmental Health Information Program (TEHIP) maintains a comprehensive web site that provides access to resources produced by it and by other government agencies and organizations: Diseases and the Environment. This web site includes links to databases, bibliographies, tutorials, and other scientific and consumer-oriented resources.

  • Environmental Health Perspectives
Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP) is the journal of the NIEHS and serves as a forum for the discussion of the interrelationships between the environment and human health. It publishes peer-reviewed research and the most current and credible news of the field.

  • Institutional Review Board
The mandate of the NIEHS Institutional Review Board is to provide ethical and regulatory oversight of research that involves human subjects.

  • Library & Information Services Branch
The NIEHS Library & Information Services Branch (LISB) plays a vital role within the NIEHS research community by managing information and knowledge about environmental health.

  • Nanotechnology Notable Papers and Advances
The Nanotechnology Notable Papers and Advances is a searchable list of NIEHS-funded Nanotechnology publications.

  • Publication Images
Publication Images: The Good, the Bad and the Impossible(1MB): Photomicrographic images that are submitted to Toxicologic Pathology for the purpose of documenting scientific findings range in quality from the good and the bad, to the impossible.

  • Report on Carcinogens
The 14th Report on Carcinogens is released on November 3, 2016. The Report on Carcinogens (RoC) is a congressionally mandated, science-based, public health document that the NTP prepared for the HHS Secretary. The report identifies agents, substances, mixtures, and exposure circumstances that are known or reasonably anticipated to cause cancer in humans.

  • Research Highlights
The vision of the NIEHS is to use environmental health sciences to understand human disease and improve human health.. On this page you will find some Research Highlights from NIEHS scientists since its founding in 1966.

Applications, Databases and Software

Database Application
  • Databases
The Databases page contains items that are important tools in the field of environmental science, such as the Biomarkers of Oxidative Stress Study (BOSS), the Microarray Center cDNA Clone Search and more.

  • Digitized Atlas of Mouse Liver Lesions
The Digitized Atlas of Mouse Liver Lesions page contains both search by subject and search by pathology.

  • Climate Change and Human Health Literature Portal
The Climate Change and Human Health Literature Portal is a knowledge management tool for locating the most relevant scientific literature, government reports, policy documents, and other resources on the health implications of climate change.

  • EPR/ESR
Electron Paramagnetic Resonance/Electron Spin Resonance (EPR/ESR), is a sophisticated spectroscopic technique that detects free radicals in chemical and biological systems. This page is a resource for scientists studying the involvement of free radicals in pathological disease.

  • Household Products
The Household Products Database provides essential health and safety information on multiple common household products.

  • NTP Data Downloads
Have you ever wanted to combine NTP study data with your research? With the NTP Data Downloads web page , you can bring NTP data to your desktop by downloading a few files. Summary data on all NTP chemicals can be downloaded in a single file. If you would like more detailed data, you can download an individual study type. Currently, CHO Cell Cytogenesis, Drosophila, Micronucleus, Mouse Lymphoma, Rodent Cytogenetics, and Salmonella study types are the study types available for detailed data downloads.

  • Software
NIEHS Software ("/Rhythmyx/assembler/render?sys_contentid=35926&sys_revision=4&sys_variantid=1169&sys_context=0&sys_authtype=0&sys_siteid=&sys_folderid=" sys_dependentvariantid="1169" sys_dependentid="35926" inlinetype="rxhyperlink" rxinlineslot="103" sys_dependentid="35926" sys_siteid="" sys_folderid="") was written by scientists within the Institute and is available to the public at no cost.
