The American Council for an Energy-Efficiency Economy (ACEEE) is committed to attracting talented students to the field of energy efficiency. To that end, the Linda Latham Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to students to attend ACEEE Summer Study conferences. Both college undergraduates and graduates in accredited schools who are interested in pursuing careers in environmental programs are eligible. An ACEEE Summer Study is held every summer, alternating between the East Coast (the “Industry” Summer Study) and the West Coast (the “Buildings” Summer Study). The Scholarship Fund reflects ACEEE’s belief that there are many students who will bring talent and creativity to the field of energy efficiency if we provide a venue to inspire and educate them.
The Linda Latham Scholarship Fund was created in memory of Linda Latham, a visionary leader who helped to change the way we think about energy consumption in the United States. ACEEE established the Scholarship Fund in recognition of Linda’s lifelong commitment to protecting our country’s energy and environmental future.
As Chief Operating Officer for ACEEE, Linda was a talented leader whose personal qualities and leadership skills were admired by all who knew her. In the early 1990s, while working for the Environmental Protection Agency, Linda helped to expand the ENERGY STAR program from its modest start to the broad program we know today. Linda died in September 2011 from a second recurrence of cancer. Her strength and personal courage during her long and difficult illness serves as an inspiration for all. ACEEE is committed to carrying on her work and honoring her legacy by investing in the energy leaders of the future.
