NOAA Ship Henry B. Bigelow returned to its Newport, R.I. homeport on Nov. 10 after completing the North Atlantic autumn bottom trawl survey three days ahead of schedule. The ship conducted trawl samples at 376 separate stations ranging from Cape Hatteras, N.C. to Nova Scotia, Canada. Federal and state managers use data from the North Atlantic bottom trawl survey to set regulations based on measured abundance, distribution, size and age composition of fish stocks of economically and ecologically important fish species.
