About Us
Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education
SARE is a program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture that functions through competitive grants conducted cooperatively by farmers, ranchers, researchers and ag professionals to advance farm and ranch systems that are profitable, environmentally sound and good for communities.
How We Work
SARE is not business as usual.
Administrative Council
The Administrative Council provides leadership for Western SARE.
SARE Staff
At Western SARE, we're committed to serving all farmers and ranchers and their support organizations in the West. If you have questions, observations or concerns, we want to hear them.
Western SARE Goals
Grant applications consistent with the goals listed below have the best chance of being funded.
State Coordinators
A state coordinator represents each of the thirteen states and four U.S. Pacific island protectorates that are part of the Western region. The state coordinators assist in promoting sustainable agriculture locally through noncompetitive state grants operated through SARE's Professional Development Program and through promotion of SARE-funded project results.
What is Sustainable Agriculture?
Sustainability in agriculture embraces all farming and ranching - from small to large, from narrowly focused to highly diversified. At all times, it shuns labels that polarize or categorize.
