The Green Infrastructure Collaborative (GIC) is a partnership between the Lake Champlain Sea Grant Program (LCSG) at UVM and the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation. The Collaborative will promote Low Impact Development (LID) and Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) practices in Vermont watersheds to manage stormwater runoff from developed lands.
In Vermont we define Green Infrastructure (GI) as “a wide range of multi-functional, natural and semi-natural landscape elements located within, around, and between developed areas at all spatial scales." This includes everything from forests and meadows to wetlands, floodplains, and riparian areas. Humans rely on GI for a variety of ecological goods and services such as clean water and air, carbon sequestration, flood control, and climate change mitigation. GI can also increase property values, enhance tourism and recreational opportunities, create jobs, and improve human health and well-being.
