Northwest Fisheries Science Center

The Northwest Fisheries Science Center’s (NWFSC) mission is to conduct the science necessary to conserve marine and anadromous species and their habitats in the Northwest region. The NWFSC works off the Washington, Oregon, and northern California coasts and in the freshwater rivers of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Climate-related changes are altering aquatic ecosystems in the Northwest region. This includes changes in precipitation patterns, stream flow, temperatures, sea level, and water chemistry. As part of their programs, the NWFSC focuses on research to improve understanding of risks to marine ecosystems, species, and communities; how to forecast them; and identify ways to mitigate their impacts.
