INDUSTRY’S VOICE IN U.S.TRADE POLICY
The Industry Trade Advisory Committees (ITACs) are a unique public-private partnership jointly managed by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Office of United States Trade Representative (USTR) that engages business leaders in formulating U.S. trade policy.
As part of the USTR-led trade advisory committee system, the Department of Commerce and USTR co-administer sixteen ITACs, an ITAC Committee of Chairs, and more than 300+ trade advisors, who provide detailed policy and technical advice and recommendations to the Secretary of Commerce and The United States Trade Representative regarding trade barriers, negotiations of trade agreements, and implementation of existing trade agreements affecting industry sectors; and perform other advisory functions relevant to U.S. trade policy matters.
News and Events
The charters of the Industry Trade Advisory Committees (ITACs) were renewed on February 14, 2014, and members are appointed to the committees at the start of the charter term and on a rolling basis throughout the four-year charter term. Pursuant to Section 135(f)(2) of the Trade Act of 1974, as amended, the charters will expire in four years, along with members' appointments, on February 14, 2018.
Nominations Requested
The Industry Trade Advisory Center recently published a Federal Register notice amending the request for nominations to fill vacancies for the Industry Trade Advisory Committees (ITACs). The Department of Commerce and the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) revised the eligibility criteria to permit federally-registered lobbyists to apply for membership on the ITACs.
