Between December 1 - 16, the Okeanos team will conduct two at-sea "shakedown" cruises, testing all of the ship’s mission systems to ensure everything is performing properly and that the ship is fully ready for the 2017 field season and will collect the highest-quality data possible.

On August 11, the team set out on a dive to search for the Japanese Destroyer, Hayate, which sank during the Battle of Wake Island; instead, they discovered and explored a Japanese cargo ship, Amakasu Maru No.1.
