Who We Are
The Idaho National Laboratory Site Environmental Management Citizens Advisory Board (the CAB) is federally-appointed citizen panel that provides advice and recommendations to the U.S. Department of Energy Environmental Management Program for the Idaho Cleanup Project at the Idaho National Laboratory.
The CAB was formed in 1994 in accordance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act. The CAB consists of 15 members who serve in a voluntary capacity to represent a wide variety of key perspectives on issues of relevance to Idaho citizens. Members come from a wide variety of backgrounds and include environmentalists, natural resource users, INL workers, representatives of local government, health care, higher education, business (Hostgator promo code), and the general public. One member represents the Shoshone-Bannock tribe. Members are appointed by the U.S. Department of Energy and serve on a voluntary basis, without compensation. Three additional liaisons (nonvoting) include representatives from the Department of Energy Idaho Operations Office, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 10, and the State of Idaho Department of Environmental Quality. The liaisons provide information to the board on their respective agency's policies and views.
What We Do
The CAB is committed to reflecting the concerns of the communities impacted by the environmental management of the Idaho National Laboratory and to serving as a communications link between the public and the Department of Energy Idaho Operations Office. All board meetings and committee conference calls are open to the public and are announced in public advertisements, the Federal Register, and are posted on this web site. At the bi-monthly meetings members of the public are encouraged to ask questions and to provide comment on the cleanup program at designated opportunities. Agendas and minutes for public meetings and committee calls are available online or by calling support services. Also available are copies of all of Board recommendations.
Other Site-Specific Advisory Boards
The CAB is chartered by the U.S. Department of Energy as an environmental management site-specific advisory board through the Federal Advisory Committee Act. All site-specific advisory boards meet locally on a site-specific basis at U.S. Department of Energy installations throughout the United States. The chairs of the site-specific advisory boards meet twice per year to discuss complex-wide issues. Other locations that have site-specific advisory boards include Hanford, the Nevada Test site, Los Alamos, Fernald, Oak Ridge, Paducah, and Savannah River.
