Fourth graders can visit the Every Kid in a Park website at www.everykidinapark.gov and complete a fun educational activity to obtain and print their pass. 

Students can trade in their paper pass for a more durable pass at participating federal sites nationwide listed on the website. The pass grants free entry for fourth graders and up to three accompanying adults or an entire non-commercial vehicle for drive-in parks at more than 2,000 federal sites nationwide.

District Names Chief of Design Branch’s Levee and Drainage Section

VICKSBURG, MISS…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District recently selected Colby Bankston as chief of its design branch’s levee and drainage section of Engineering and Construction Division. In this position, Bankston will oversee a talented group of engineers and technicians who are responsible for the production of construction plans and specifications for levee and channel projects throughout the District.

Arkabutla Lake Hosts Youth Waterfowl Hunt

Vicksburg, Miss…Arkabutla Lake of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks will host a youth waterfowl hunt on January 28 and February 4, 2017 in a management area near Arkabutla Lake Dam. The Youth Waterfowl Hunt will provide an opportunity for experienced waterfowl hunters to teach the younger hunters proper techniques and ethics of the sport.

Corps’ Louisiana Field Office Hosts Fifth Annual Patriot Hunt

Vicksburg, MS….The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Louisiana Field Office partnered with Warrior Hunts and the National Wild Turkey Federation to host the Fifth Annual Patriot Hunt on December 3, 2016 at Columbia Lock and Dam. The hunts began Saturday morning with breakfast provided by volunteers. Breakfast was followed by a safety meeting to discuss the stands and shooting areas. Twelve hunters were then escorted to eight separate deer stands. At the conclusion of the morning hunt, four deer were harvested, including an 8-point. The rainy weather condition did not allow hunters to achieve many clean shots as the deer were moving through quickly and at far distances.

District Names Mississippi Valley Division Geotechnical Regional Technical Specialist

VICKSBURG, MISS…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District, recently selected Heather Sibley as a Mississippi Valley Division (MVD) geotechnical regional technical specialist. In this position, Sibley will serve as a regional subject matter expert in the geotechnical engineering community of practice. She will also serve as a leader on complex, non-routine dam and levee safety modifications and geotechnical analyses.

Corps Asks For Help Finding Missing Employee

Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is asking the public for assistance with finding an employee who went missing from its quarters barge on the Mississippi River near Norco, Louisiana. Larrielle Ross, a food service worker, was last seen in the dining facility on the quarters barge at approximately 4:30 pm on 1 November.
