Important Notices:

Visiting the Consulate

Visa applicants should arrive at the Consulate at their scheduled appointment time. The appointment time is the time at which the applicant may get in line to enter the Consulate facility; it is not the time at which the applicant will interview with the visa officer. Any applicant who arrives more than 30 minutes before their appointment time may be denied entry into the Consulate.

Visa applicants must pass through a security checkpoint. Applicants cannot bring cell phones, electronic devices (such as laptops, PDAs, MP3 players, cameras etc.) or any bags except small handbags, purses, or plastic bags into the U.S. Consulate in Chengdu. Please note that the Consulate cannot provide storage for applicants; applicants will be turned away if they bring any of the prohibited items mentioned above.

Applicants should bring to their appointment only their passports, their National Identification Card, and application materials.

Important Reminder on the Visa Waiver Program/ESTA and Travel to the United States:

The Consulate General of the United States in Chengdu wishes to remind all individuals who are able to travel to the United States via the Visa Waiver Program that as of 01 April 2016, they must have a valid electronic passport.  This rule applies even to those who possess a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA).  The U.S. Consulate strongly recommends that all travelers check to ensure their passports are valid electronic passports before they make arrangements to travel to the United States on the Visa Waiver Program.

Electronic passports have the top left symbol on their cover.

You can check if your passport is valid for travel under the VWP by carefully reading the following page: https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/visit/visa-waiver-program.html.

Any traveler who does not have a valid electronic passport is still eligible to travel to the United States with a valid nonimmigrant visa issued by a U.S. embassy or consulate. Such travelers will be required to appear for an interview and obtain a visa in their passports at a U.S. embassy or consulate before traveling to the United States.  Information on visa applications can be found at:

    http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en.html.
