The Apalachicola, Chattahoochee, and Flint River System provides a link form the upper Chattachoochee and Flint River basins to the Gulf of Mexico at Apalachicola, Florida. The ACF is linked to our Nation's vast inland navigation systems through the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. The Apalachicola, Chattahoochee, and Flint River System consists of a channel nine feet deep and 100 feet wide from the mouth of the Apalachicola River to the head of navigation at Columbus, Georgia for the Chattachoochee River and at Bainbridge, Georgia for the Flint River. The total waterway distances is 290 miles with a lift of 190 feet accomplished by three locks and dams.
The system also provides hydoelectric power, water supply, water quality, flood control and recreational opportunities.

Requests for lockages will now be taken exclusively at G. W. Andrews Lock at 229-723-3482 and boaters should not contact the other locks with locking requests. Locks on the ACF Rivers are available twenty four hours per day, seven days per week for appointments by commercial traffic. Non-commercial traffic may be accommodated during the hours the lock is manned, subject to availability of lock operators and in conjunction with maintenance activities and as those activities allow. All recreational boaters requesting to lock through should call at least 48-hours ahead. Special Events may be accommodated outside normal schedules but sponsors should call several weeks ahead of the scheduled date. * The powerhouse at Walter F. George Lock and Dam has the capacity to generate enough electricity to meet the needs of a city with the population of 40,000. Manned 24 hours a day, the powerhouse control room regulates water flows and power genteration for the lower end of the Chattahoochee River.
Walter F. George Lake & G.W. Andrews Lake
Lake George W. Andrews is located directly south of the Walter F. George Lock and Dam, stretching 29 miles down the Chattahoochee River to the George W. Andrews Lock and Dam just south of Columbia, Alabama. Like the larger lake to the north, Lake George W. Andrews offers excellent fishing and other recreational opportunities. The lake is narrow and is punctuated by several creeks flowing into the Chattahoochee.

Lake Seminole
The Lake Seminole project, originally authorized as the Jim Woodruff Lock & Dam Project by the River and Harbor Act of 1946, was the first of three locks and dams constructed for navigation, hydro-power, recreation and related use purposes on the Apalachicola, Chattahoochee, and Flint River systems. Construction of this multi-purpose project began in 1947 and was completed in 1957 at a cost of 46.5 million. Electric power generated by the Jim Woodruff Powerhouse serve both homes and industry.
