Smart Traveler Enrollment Program

The Smart Traveler Enrollment Program is a free service provided by the U.S. State Department to U.S. citizens who are traveling to or living in a foreign country. Enrollment allows American citizens to record travel and or foreign residence information which the State Department can use to assist American citizens in case of an emergency.  The travel and contact information you enter into the State Department’s SMART Traveler Enrollment Program will also assist U.S. embassies and consulates around the world to better identify the consular needs of Americans living abroad.

The Internet travel enrollment service for American citizens allows you to enroll and update your contact information on the Internet at any time, making it easier for you to keep your information current. The site also provides you with up-to-date travel information customized to your unique travel agenda and itinerary. The data you provide is secured behind Department of State firewalls, accessed only by cleared personnel in Embassies, Consulates, and the Department of State, and releasable only under the provisions of the Privacy Act.
