Volunteer Program
Our good neighbor pledge includes active employee engagement in our communities through volunteering. More than 3,000 current and retired Lab employees have logged more than 1.8 million volunteer hours since 2007.

Volunteering: A gift of service
The Laboratory's Volunteer Program encourages our employees and retirees to get involved by giving of their time, talent, and energy to community efforts. More than 3,000 volunteers are registered and have logged more than 1.8 million hours of volunteerism since 2007.

Using VolunteerMatch, a national web-based system, and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, Lab employees and retirees can identify community volunteer opportunities, as well as enter and track their volunteer hours. See list of Los Alamos National Laboratory volunteers (pdf)
Annually, LANS rewards its volunteers by making a monetary donation on their behalf to their nonprofit organizations. In 2014, 282,268 volunteer hours were logged, and 232 nonprofit organizations will receive $170,000 in LANS awards.

The goal of the Lab's Volunteer Program is to match employee interests with our communities' needs and goals by actively recruiting, retaining, recognizing and rewarding volunteer service:

Encouraging our employees and retirees to share their time and talent with local and regional nonprofit organizations, schools and pueblos. - Retain
Providing exciting and new volunteer partnerships with Northern New Mexico nonprofit organizations to keep Lab volunteers engaged and energized. - Recognize and reward
Recognize the efforts of Lab volunteers at the annual Volunteer Recognition event. As part of its Community Commitment Plan, LANS recognizes the volunteer efforts of Lab employees and retirees.
Los Alamos National Laboratory volunteers (employees and retirees) can now search, sign up, and track hours on their mobile devices—the MobileMatch app is a mobile extension to Los Alamos National Laboratory’s VolunteerMatch site.
