PACER

What is PACER?

The Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) is an electronic public access service that allows users to view docket reports and documents from a court's database.  PACER includes case and docket information for all district, bankruptcy,. and appellate courts.  Information in PACER includes civil cases pending or filed on or after December 2, 1991, and criminal cases filed on or after January 3, 1994.

How to Register

There are several different types of accounts for which you may be eligible to register.  A PACER account provides search only access and works in all federal appellate, bankruptcy, and district courts.  PACER searches can find documents filed electronically using the courts' Case Management/Electronic Case Filing (CM/ECF) system but you need a separate account to use CM/ECF for filing.  A firm or group may register for a PACER Administrative Account to manage their PACER logins.  A centralized registration process is also available for electronic filing privileges in federal appellate courts.  Filing privileges at federal district and bankruptcy courts are handled by each court individually.  For more information, you may also contact the PACER Service Center at (800) 676-6856 or (210)301-6440 Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CST.  The PACER Service Center email address is: pacer@psc.uscourts.gov.

Fees

Access to court documents costs $0.10 per page.  The cost to access a single document is capped at $3.00, the equivalent of 30 pages.  The cap does not apply to name searches, reports that are not case-specific and transcripts of federal court proceedings.  By Judicial Conference policy, if your usage does not exceed $15 in a quarter, fees for that quarter are waived, effectively making the service free for most users.
