If your employer offers you health insurance through the Small Businesses Health Options Program (SHOP) Marketplace, you’ll get an email or letter explaining your options and next steps.

NOTE: If you were enrolled in a SHOP plan last year, follow the renewal process instead.

The notice will include a “participation code” (also known as a "SHOP Unique Code"). You’ll need the participation code to accept or decline your employer’s insurance offer. If you lost or never got it, contact your employer.

Considering your SHOP health insurance plan offer

• To review your offer, log in to your HealthCare.gov account. If you don't have an account, create one.
• When you reach a page titled, "Where do you want to go?" select "Visit Employee Marketplace" and follow the instructions.
• Read the offer carefully and make sure you understand the costs and coverage, including the premium, deductible, copayments, and coinsurance.
• Use our glossary to look up terms you don’t understand.
• You may be offered a choice of plans. If so, explore each one to find the one that best meets your needs.
• Before you make a decision, you may want to learn about your other health coverage options.

Responding to your SHOP health insurance offer

You can accept or decline the coverage offer by phone or online. You can't respond directly through your employer.

To respond by phone

After you have reviewed your SHOP health insurance offer:

• Call the SHOP Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-706-7893 (TTY: 771) weekdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET to accept or decline the offer.
• Be sure to have your SHOP Marketplace participation code handy.

To respond online

After you have reviewed your SHOP health insurance offer online:

• Follow the instructions to accept or decline the offer.
• Be sure to have your SHOP Marketplace participation code handy.
