5 Oklahoma locks and dams on the Ark. River Navigation System
The McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System (MKARNS) is made up of 18 locks and dams, three different rivers and one manmade canal. All are managed to ensure year-round nautical navigation on the 445 mile system. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District manages the Oklahoma portion – five locks and dams and 137 miles of channel.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Southwestern Division hosted a hurricane training event in Galveston, Texas that brought multiple federal, state and local government organizations together to prepare for the next disaster and to rehearse how the unified response would play out. The two-day exercise started with a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter staff and media aerial tour. The tour was set up to show exercise participants the path of Hurricane Ike, Corps protection structures, flood risk reduction reservoirs, temporary housing and debris staging areas, key terrain, critical facilities, and also to get an idea of how the island and inland areas have recovered since the storm.

Statement Regarding the Dakota Access Pipeline

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Army informed the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Energy Transfer Partners, and Dakota Access, LLC, that it has completed the review that it launched on September 9, 2016. The Army has determined that additional discussion and analysis are warranted in light of the history of the Great Sioux Nation’s dispossessions of lands, the importance of Lake Oahe to the Tribe, our government-to-government relationship, and the statute governing easements through government property.

Army Corps of Engineers waives day use fees at recreation areas on Veterans Day

DALLAS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees for veterans, active and reserve component service members, and their families at the more than 2,800 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide on Veterans Day, November 11.
