Delisted Species Under the Endangered Species Act (ESA)

Delisted species are those species that were formerly listed as threatened or endangered under the ESA but have since been removed because of their status.

Species Under Review or Proposed for Delisting

Species under review or proposed for delisting are those petitioned species that are currently listed as threatened or endangered under the ESA but are actively being considered for removal from the list. NMFS may be petitioned to delist a species or may self-initiate an ESA status review that it has announced in the Federal Register (see "How species are listed").
