Environmental Management System

Lizard

Sandia National Laboratories (Sandia) is committed to environmental protection with its mission and recognizes that the environment must be protected and preserved for future and current generations. Sandia takes this responsibility seriously and has implemented an Environmental Management System (EMS) to identify and mitigate risks and incorporate environmental management into daily work activities. EMS is a continuing cycle of planning, implementing, evaluating, and improving processes to achieve environmental goals.

See the Annual Site Environmental Reports, for more information on the environmental programs and goals at Sandia.

ISO logoSandia follows the International Standard for Environmental Management Systems, ISO 14001:2004. ISO 14001 is the internationally accepted standard used to recognize and validate the effectiveness of Sandia’s EMS. The standard specifies requirements for establishing an environmental policy, determining environmental aspects and their impacts, developing environmental objectives and targets, and the implementation of programs to meet these objectives and targets. Sandia’s EMS was recertified to the ISO 14001:2004 Standard May 2015 for the facilities in Albuquerque, NM and Livermore, CA.
