Office History:
Known as the “Flagship Field Office of NCIS”, the Norfolk Field Office is located aboard the Naval Station in Norfolk, VA., and provides support to Navy and Marine Corps installations and Joint Forces Command in the Norfolk area. Naval Station Norfolk is the largest military base in the world, with 14 piers, 15 aircraft hangers, and tens of thousands of Sailors and Marines living and working in the area. In addition to working general crimes cases, NCIS Special Agents assigned to the Norfolk Field Office are involved in counterintelligence and counterterrorism cases, procurement fraud, and computer investigations and operations initiatives. Agents in Norfolk also work in the field office's Domestic Violence Unit (DVU), Major Case Response Team (MCRT), and Cold Case unit.

Investigative Units:
Norfolk Field Office’s Family & Sexual Violence unit focuses on providing timely, efficient, and comprehensive responses to general criminal activity as well as to child sexual and physical abuse. The unit also reports all domestic violence incidents, and provides threat management consultations in the Hampton Roads area through the Threat Management Unit.
The Norfolk Field Office Special Operations squad’s mission is to identify and disrupt criminal threats in the Norfolk Field Office AOR through the execution of a full spectrum of proactive investigative measures.
Norfolk Field Office’s Fraud unit focuses on procurement fraud investigations within the AOR and Federal Employee Compensation Act investigations for the Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic AOR. The unit has established unprecedented cooperation with Military Criminal Investigation Organizations, FBI and United States Attorney Offices (Special Assistant United States Attorney) which resulted in significant convictions and sentences.
The Field Office’s Foreign Counterintelligence squad focuses on the identification and disruption of Counterintelligence (CI)/Counter Terrorism (CT) threats in the Norfolk Field Office AOR through the execution of the full spectrum of CI core capabilities to include proactive collection, investigations, operations, and functional services.
