Latina Style magazine picks the best workplaces

LOS ALAMOS, N.M., Aug. 29, 2016—Latina Style magazine today named Los Alamos National Laboratory as a top 50 employer for Latina women, the first national laboratory to achieve the distinction. More than 800 corporations and companies were reviewed. The magazine features the nation’s best workplaces in its Latina Style 50 report in this month’s issue.

“This recognition from Latina Style magazine speaks to our commitment to making the Laboratory an employer of choice for Latinas and other women who are considering careers at scientific and technical institutions,” said Laboratory Director Charlie McMillan. “We are striving to attract a workforce that more closely resembles the nation as a whole. We are honored to receive recognition indicating that we are moving in the right direction, though we will not be fully satisfied until we meet all of our diversity goals."

“This annual survey of the 50 best companies for Latinas to work for in the United States serves as the most respected source of employment and career information for Hispanic women in our country,” Latina Style magazine President and CEO Robert Bard said.

Bard said the August edition will be distributed to Hispanic professional and civic organizations, national women’s organizations, more than 2,000 colleges and universities, major Hispanic and recruitment conferences, members of Congress, the White House and cabinet secretaries.

The magazine plans to recognize the Laboratory and other recipients during an event at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., Feb. 9, 2017.

In addition to the recognition from Latina Style magazine, the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) named the Laboratory as a top 50 STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) employer for Native Americans. Winds of Change magazine, published by AISES, announced this recognition in its spring 2016 issue.
