- Hi All - this is a memory from 3 years ago, after the flood in 2013.... I wanted to thank-you all again for your help and support during that time. The National Guard will always have a special place in the hearts of the people of Pinewood Springs: I was sitting at a table today at The Colorado Cherry Company with my friend Lee Williams and about 9 members of the National Guard, many of whom have been with us in Pinewood Springs, Colorado since the very beginning. I don't know ranks and titles, but I heard (Col) Tran say "In the 27 years I've been building roads, I have gotten the most enjoyment and satisfaction from this assignment." When I asked him why this was different, a few of them chimed in. "It is because we get to see who we are working for. We got to help the school children cross the trail that the community built so they could get to school. This could have been our home, our neighbors and wives, husbands and children. That's how this felt. And, you have made us part of your neighborhood and community." "We did this in our country, on our soil, for our people. This is why we put these uniforms on every day." Wow. You, like any Infantry Officer, will be facing long, dark nights and very sore feet, in the field.
